Private Music Lessons

For Students of All Ages and Abilities

"A child who sings is a happy child."

Whether you are looking for serious music education and want your child to take exams, or you just want your child to learn how to play his or her favorite songs, you are in a right place.

Our music program is a year round program, students may enroll at anytime on a month to month basis. There are no yearly or semester contracts.

There is a 30 min. required interview/trail lesson with the teacher of your choice. A $50.00 interview/trial fee must be settled before an interview lesson can begin. These interview/trial lessons cannot be rescheduled or refunded.

In-studio, Private & Group Lessons

In-Studio Private
Music Instruction

San Jose Academy of Music currently offers private one-on-one lessons for the following instruments: Piano, Voice, Violin, Guitar, Bass, Ukulele, Drums, Harp, Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Trumpet, Theory, Composition, Audio Recording, and Music Production for all levels and ages.

Instrument technique, posture and position, ear-training, and music theory such as note-reading and rhythm are emphasized. Above all, musicality and expression are explored.

Our instructors also provide preparation for Royal Conservatory of Music certification (we are an RCM founding school!) and Music Teachers’ Association of California Certificate of Merit exams upon request.

Scheduled Lessons

Your lesson time has been reserved for you with a mutual understanding that we will have lessons at the same day and time each week. When students enroll, they are reserving a space in the studio and in their instructor’s schedule. Payment for this time slot is made at the beginning of each month – it is your choice whether or not to come to that time slot. If a scheduling conflict arises, please feel free to speak with us and we will be happy to work with you to find a time that will work best for everyone.

Special Needs

Lessons are offered to children with autism and other special needs requirements. Skills that will be emphasized are: piano technique, piano theory, music reading, listening, rhythm, and following directions.

Group Lessons

We offer a variety of music lessons in a group setting. Group lessons are often ideal for students looking to explore an instrument or who are beginners looking to increase their skill without a full individual lesson commitment. Please inquire about group class scheduling and rates.

Parental Role & Scope

Parental Role

Students under the age of 8 are expected to have a parent present at each lesson. The parent’s role in the development of their child’s music education is imperative. Practice should be monitored and instilled in a daily routine. We recommend a practice routine at the same time everyday, making practice habitual. Music takes discipline and motivation in order to succeed, and both parents and teachers should instill these skills.

Scope of Study

To become a well-rounded musician, it is essential that students be actively engaged in all facets of music study, including theory, sight-reading, technique, and performance. We highly encourage students to participate in the 2-4 recitals we hold each year. Composition, singing, and other artistic activities are also encouraged.
