Private Music Lessons

For students of all ages and abilities

As our music program is a year round program, students may enroll at anytime.

There is a 30 min. required interview/trail lesson with the teacher of your choice. A $41.00 interview/trial fee must be settled before a interview lesson can begin. These interview/trial lessons cannot be rescheduled or refunded

Private & Group Lessons

Private Music Instruction
San Jose Academy of Music currently offers private one-on-one lessons for the following instruments: Piano, Voice, Violin, Guitar, Bass, Ukulele, Drums, Harp, Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Trumpet, Theory, Composition, Audio Recording, and Music Production for all levels and ages.
Instrument technique, posture and position, ear-training, and music theory such as note-reading and rhythm are emphasized. Above all, musicality and expression are explored.
Our instructors also provide preparation for Royal Conservatory of Music certification (we are an RCM founding school!) and Music Teachers' Association of California Certificate of Merit exams upon request.

Group Music Instruction
Please inquire about group class scheduling and rates.

Scheduled Lessons
Your lesson time has been reserved for you with a mutual understanding that we will have lessons at the same day and time each week. When students enroll, they are reserving a space in the studio and in their instructor’s schedule. Payment for this time slot is made at the beginning of each month - it is your choice whether or not to come to that time slot. If a scheduling conflict arises, please feel free to speak with us and we will be happy to work with you to find a time that will work best for everyone.

We ask that:

  • Students come to lessons on time and prepared with all assignments, music, and necessary materials.

In return, we will provide:

  • An enriching musical education and warm learning environment for all of our students.

  • To always be punctual and well-prepared.

  • To teach with kindness and respect.

  • And to always be there for our students for any reason.

Special Needs
Lessons are offered to children with autism and other special needs requirements. Skills that will be emphasized are: piano technique, piano theory, music reading, listening, rhythm, and following directions.

Tuition & Billing

A one-time registration fee of $60 per student is required upon enrollment.

Tuition is a monthly rate. Although tuition is calculated by how many lessons a student has that month, tuition covers more than just the time an instructor spends with a student. It includes individualized lesson plans tailored to each student, an instructor’s training and experience, preparation time, development of teaching materials (this sometimes includes pieces composed specifically for a student), and recital preparation.

Monthly rates (for weekly lessons) are:

  • 30-minute Lessons - $164 per 4-week month, $205 per 5-week month

  • 45-minute Lessons - $244 per 4-week month, $305 per 5-week month

  • 60-minute Lessons - $324 per 4-week month, $405 per 5-week month

Monthly tuition is due by the first lesson of each month and is to be submitted to SJAM Management at the front desk or to your instructor. Payments can be made by Zelle, cash, check, and/or online bill pay through your bank.

*Please note that a late fee of $20/month will be applied to any tuition submitted after the third lesson of the month. Returned checks require a fee of $30 to be added to the tuition.

Parental Role & Scope of Study

Parental Role
Students under the age of 8 are expected to have a parent present at each lesson. The parent’s role in the development of their child’s music education is imperative. Practice should be monitored and instilled in a daily routine. We recommend a practice routine at the same time everyday, making practice habitual. Music takes discipline and motivation in order to succeed, and both parents and teachers should instill these skills.

Scope of Study
To become a well-rounded musician, it is essential that students be actively engaged in all facets of music study, including theory, sight-reading, technique, and performance. We highly encourage students to participate in the 4-5 recitals we hold each year. Composition, singing, and other artistic activities are also encouraged.
