Beginner’s Steps to Perfection
- Say note names out loud (G,G,G,D)
- Say the rhythm. For quarter- notes say ta; for two eight-notes say tee-tee. Or say words like pie for a quarter-note, apple for two eight-notes, and huckleberry for four sixteenth-notes, or just la la la. Be sure to sat shh every time there is a rest.
- Say the note names in rhythm(GG,GG,D)
- Finger the notes on your instrument and say the note names in rhythm.
- Pianists play one hand at a time.
- Play without making mistakes very, very, very, very slowly.
- Add articulation.
- Play with the metronome very slowly.
- Gradually work up to tempo.
- Impress your teacher.
